Removal defense consultations are available every Tuesday and Thursday at our office and by phone for no charge. Consultations include a brief case review and legal advice. During consultations, individuals are informed about their potential forms of relief and defenses against removal from the U.S.

Common forms of relief screened for include (but are not limited to):

  • Asylum
  • Withholding of Removal
  • Protections under the Convention Against Torture
  • LPR Cancellation of Removal
  • Non-LPR Cancellation of Removal
  • VAWA Cancellation of Removal
  • U Visa
  • T visa
  • Adjustment of Status
  • Derivative Citizenship
  • Bond


Pro Se Assistance

Services are also available for individuals who are representing themselves pro se (without legal representation) and need preparation regarding their upcoming hearing, review of criminal records and the potential immigration consequences, and review of applications for accuracy. Pro se assistance is free.

  • Review of charging documents (Notice to Appear)
  • Review of criminal records]
  • Review of applications for various forms of relief


In a limited number of cases, Advancing Justice – LA provides direct legal representation free of charge. Legal representation includes appearances before the Immigration Court for the duration of an individual’s removal proceedings and also for bond and custody proceedings.
