Building upon the legacy of the Asian Pacific American Legal Center

Advancing Justice-LA Announces Nationwide Search for New CEO

LOS ANGELES — Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Los Angeles (Advancing Justice-LA)  has launched a nationwide search for a new Chief Executive Officer. The search is a first for the organization, which was previously led by civil rights leader and attorney Stewart Kwoh. Kwoh founded the organization in 1983 and built it into a leading voice for Asian Americans in the U.S.

“We look forward to welcoming a new CEO to lead Advancing Justice-LA in the fight for a more equitable and just future for our communities,” said Nita Song, chair of the Advancing Justice-LA Board of Directors. “For the past 36 years under Stewart’s leadership we’ve become one of the nation's leading legal and civil rights organization for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. We’re looking for a dynamic leader and visionary who can build on this legacy of impact and progress.”

In 2019, Stewart Kwoh announced the transition from his role as President and Executive Director of Advancing Justice-LA due to health and personal reasons. He will continue to hold the title of Founder, working with the organization on development and coalition-building.

Koya Leadership Partners, a leading executive search and strategic advising firm exclusively dedicated to mission-driven executive recruitment, is spearheading the CEO search in conjunction with the Advancing Justice-LA Board of Directors and staff.
