Intuition. So much of how I view civic engagement and how to empower ethnic communities in the electoral process is now intuitive. The subtle details are ingrained, including the nuances of everything from how to engage different types of Asian Americans in culturally competent conversations about voting to knowing the best time of day to call people of different age ranges when phone banking. Of course, in hindsight, I realize it’s not just intuition that guides my work but, also that my knowledge is grounded in my experiences working for the Asian American and Pacific Islander community.
