Advancing Justice-CA Priority Immigrant Rights Legislation Passes California State Senate

Advancing Justice - California (Advancing Justice-CA) applauds the passage of two key California bills that directly fight back against President Trump’s xenophobic and islamophobic policies attacking the nation’s most vulnerable communities. Legislation Addressing Bullying and Harassment of Muslim and Sikh Students Signed by Governor Brown

SACRAMENTO – Governor Jerry Brown has signed a historic bill, Assemblymember Das Williams’ Assembly Bill (AB) 2845, that will protect vulnerable Muslim and Sikh students who are facing bullying in school. At a time when other political leaders are fomenting hate, Governor Brown has sent an important signal that Californians will protect our children from that hate.

Governor Brown Signs Landmark Legislation Calling for Disaggregation of Public Health Data to Better Serve Diverse Asian American Communities

SACRAMENTO – Governor Jerry Brown signed Assemblymember Rob Bonta’s (D-Oakland) AB 1726 into law.  AB 1726 will direct the Department of Public Health to disaggregate data for the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) community on or after July 1, 2022. Assemblymember Rob Bonta has also announced that the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) have agreed to voluntarily begin releasing disaggregated data on graduation rates, completion, enrollment and admissions. National AAPI Leaders Applaud U.S. Supreme Court Decision in Affirmative Action Case

LOS ANGELES -  Asian Americans Advancing Justice (Advancing Justice), the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF) and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) applaud the U.S. Supreme Court’s opinion released today in Fisher v. University of Texas. The Court ruled [4-3] in favor of the consideration of race as part of a holistic review of an applicant in university admissions processes.
