Advancing Justice Urges Senate to Reject Tax Bill

Asian Americans Advancing Justice (Advancing Justice), an affiliation of five civil rights organizations, is disappointed by the U.S. House of Representatives’ 227-205 vote to pass H.R.1, “Tax Cuts and Jobs Act”. This tax bill would massively cut programs like Medicaid and Medicare. As the bill moves to the Senate, whose own tax bill includes a repeal of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), Congress would deal a devastating blow to health care for millions of Americans, particularly communities of color.

Advancing Justice-LA Condemns the Passage of Amended American Health Care Act Through the U.S. House of Representatives

Advancing Justice-LA condemns the United States House of Representatives’ vote (217-213) to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) and replace it with the American Health Care Act (AHCA). The AHCA would take away access to affordable and quality health coverage for 24 million Americans by 2026 and will negatively impact hundreds of thousands Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders nationally who currently have health coverage.

Advancing Justice-LA Applauds the Defeat of the AHCA

Advancing Justice-LA applauds the defeat of the AHCA. As an organization that has long advocated for access to health care and has worked on health care reform since 2011, Advancing Justice-LA is relieved that health coverage under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) remains the law of the land and will continue for 20 million Americans who rely on the ACA for coverage.

Due to the passage of Senate Bill 4 (Lara) and Senate Bill 75, this historic expansion will affect an estimated 250,000 undocumented California children who are now eligible for coverage under the new "Health for All Kids" law. California is paving the way nationally as the largest and one of the first states in the nation to invest in all children’s health regardless of immigration status by providing full scope Medi-Cal benefits.
