Interim Senior Accountant

Position Summary: 
Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Los Angeles seeks an Interim Senior Accountant. The Interim Senior Accountant will properly apply all accounting standards and practices. This position is responsible for the preparation of accurate and timely accounting and financial reports on a cyclical as well as ad hoc basis. The Interim Sr. Accountant performs and analyzes regular activities such as revenue collection, payroll preparation, and invoice payments. This position also supports the organization and Finance Director in all audit processes, while ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all accounting processes and procedures. 
Responsibilities and Duties: 
  • General Accounting
    • Preparation of weekly Cash Position statements for the monitoring for both balances and the early detection of fraud
    • Regular reconciliation of bank accounts
    • Maintain the Fixed Asset journal and depreciation schedules and prepares entries for posting
    • Coordination with the Grant Team for the fiscal monitoring, tracking and updating of various funding grants e. Maintain the accurate status of Accounts Receivable including the proper recording of revenue details
    • Assist in the monthly financial statement preparation
    • Assist in the preparation of budgets as well as periodic updates
    • Perform account analysis 
  • Supportive of the Accounting team and maintain sufficient knowledge to be able to provide support for all internal and external customers should the primary team member be unavailable 
  • Payroll
    • Support Payroll Accountant with resolution of Payroll issues including preparation of entries for posting
    • Assist in the preparation and presentation of requested items for various audits including insurance and retirement requests 
  • Other Duties as Assigned 
Education and Work Experience 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting 
  • 3 to 5 plus years working as an accountant in a fast-paced environment, preferably in a non-profit 
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 
  • Recent experience with modern accounting systems, preferably cloud based 
  • Knowledge and experience with accounting for grants, contracts, budgeting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) 
  • Proven analytical skills with direct experience regarding Financial statements is highly desirable 
  • Knowledge of the Payroll cycle – highly desirable 
  • Knowledge of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable cycles 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication as well as interpersonal skills conducive to the supporting of multiple programs with various needs 
  • Experience working in diverse cultural settings, pro-active and ability to relate and identify with the specific needs of the department as well as other staff 
  • Intermediate knowledge, or greater, of Microsoft Office
